Never work with children and animals they say? How about children and Big Friendly Giants? We combined both on our family photoshoot creating the beautiful images that formed our BFG Bath, Book and Bedtime campaign - and what a day it was.
We enlisted friend of the brand and photographer to the Royals, Matt Porteous – we figured if he could take photos of our future kings and queens, then he’d handle the Bloom and Blossom Juniors no problem. He took it all in his stride making the B&B Juniors form all kinds of poses to get just the shot. The vision was that we’d drop the shots of the children into the fabulous Quentin Blake illustrations as if they were part of the action, so it was incredible to watch their little imaginations run wild when we asked them to pretend they were holding up a giant bottle of frobscottle, or being spat out of a giants mouth.
Keeping it in the family, our willing models were the extended B&B Juniors. They’ve been our inspiration from day 1, so it was only right to have them there with us on centre stage.
Since we had a house full of children, we had to be under a strict timetable and gave each an hours slot. We had one room off limits where the shoot took place and had to ignore the chaos that ensued upstairs, outside and wherever else they could find. Luckily we had stylist Eleanor Crompton on hand to ensure they looked the part – and they certainly did in their glorious pyjamas from The Bright Company, PJ Pan, Rachel Riley and M&S.
We ended the day with an attempt at a family shot – the fact that we managed to get one decent one was a miracle – and nothing to do with Matt’s genius photography skills. We had a glass of bubbly to celebrate wrapping up the day, and promptly needed a lie down! Did someone mention Pillow Spray….?!
